After the mapping challenge on 15th and 16th of June 2012, where 3 winners were promised to join the road trip to visit and map with 5 Universities outside Kampala, mapuganda is proud to announce that we will be travelling to Gulu University on 6th September 2012, where we shall hold a mapping event on 7th September 2012, with a selected number of students from the Faculty of computer Science/ICT.
The students will be mapping Gulu University to the openstreetmap, as well as the surrounding areas in the vicinity of the University, where they will look out for social services like Roads, Health Centres, water points, land-use, buildings, Student Hostels, among other features and their local names, that can be and are used by the community.
The mapping event will hold two sessions: data gathering with G.P.S units/ walking papers, and digitizing to OSM with JOSM or the Potlatch 2 Editor. This event also comes at a time when there are plans for the Red Cross to map Gulu and Lira in Northern Uganda with the Humanitarian Openstreetmap. Get some more details from here.
There will be another follow up event after four weeks to share with Gulu University mappers and reflect on how well the mapping community is doing in that area. Follow mapuganda on twitter for more updates.
